ABOUT THIS COURSE

A “Remote Pilot Licence” (RPL) is the licence required for a person to operate as a qualified Remote Pilot Licence Holder under The Civil Aviation (Unmanned Aircraft Systems) Regulations, 2020 .

The course is divided into four sections namely:

  • Theory Training
  • Practical Training
  • Skills Test
  • RPL Certification

It is already clear that, because of advances in technology, drones are going to play an increased role in warfare in the years ahead. It is therefore vital that the legal frameworks governing their use are robust and internationally recognised. Douglas Alexander

SECTION 1:THEORY TRAINING

The duration of the theory is 6 days and runs from Monday to Saturday during which an in-house examination is completed as well. Once a candidate has completed the theory and examinations, the candidate will then move on to the practical flying element of the course.

**All our RPL course dates refer to this theory course section since the rest of the stages’ completion depends on factors such as student’s aptitude and or availability and flight instructors booking schedule**

SECTION 2: PRACTICAL TRAINING

The practical flight hours are five hours of actual flight time, which means the actual time that you fly the drone. The instructor will complete a series of exercises with the candidate and, once deemed competent, will recommend the candidate to complete his/her skills test.

The practical training is scheduled through our in-house booking system where the student books available slots with the instructor for practical training. The Flight instructors are available for practical Training Monday to Friday. Practical Training can be made available on Saturdays and Sundays upon students’ requests

SECTION 3: SKILLS TEST

This section is completed with a DRE (Designated RPAS Examiner). The skills test has two parts. The ground evaluation, which tests your theoretical knowledge and the flight evaluation which tests the candidate’s ability to complete manoeuvres with the drone.

SECTION 4: RPL CERTIFICATION

Upon successful completion of the skills test, we take care of the student’s RPL certification process with KCAA and issue the License to the student.

Upon receipt of this license, one can legally start a career within a company that holds a Remote Aircraft Operators Certificate (ROC)or make an application to acquire one of their own. We can gladly help in this process.

**Our training packages incorporate unlimited access to the drone simulator to practise the series of manoeuvres a well as a free mock test to get a feel of what to expect in our main exams.
